(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – In the 1st article from this event we posted the top speeds for nearly everything in the photo gallery. I will attempt to keep this up, but can’t promise anything. Right now I think the effort is worth it so the readers can more-easily correlate the substance of a combination and its speed potential. I’ve yet to do a feature on a LSR vehicle, but that will likely change the next time we head North to Wilmington.

With that said, lets run down some vehicles in this posting. The beige coupe came in loaded for bear with a thumping BBC, but the driveshaft wasn’t wanting any part of that torque and split with the program pretty early. Next up are a pair of F-bodys that compete in Drag Week – one a 1st-gen Firebird and the other a 2nd-gen Camaro. The ‘bird easily went 176mph and eclipsed the speed his safety equipment would allow. The Camaro stretched its legs out to 158.8mph. The Y-block-powered Lincoln managed to keep its hood down to the tune of 124.6mph. The Gary’s Speed Shop Special Ford stock car blasted to 222mph. Finally Bill Kuntz broke through a speed barrier in his red Chevy pickup to record a 160.1mph run.

The red Ducati came within a hair of 200 at 199.9mph.

Blue Yamaha R1 was good for 192.3mph.

The Salt Machine diesel VW chugged its way to 88mph.

The Tutterrow’s orange Ford sedan went 154mph before the magic smoke was released.

The white Trans Am scooted up to 144.2mph.

Apple Tree Auto-sponsored VW managed 94.8mph.

Dan Stokes got his Mercedes-diesel-powered S10 to 128.3mph through the traps.

Al Schwarzwalder took his Mercedes for more laps than virtually every other competitor to a best recorded lap of 143mph. This is the unofficial Ohio Mile lap car.

Enjoy the photos.
