When a competitor at Bonneville Speed Week makes a run that qualifies them for a record, cars are required to report to Impound and have their car inspected. After being inspected, and found to be legal for their claimed class, competitors are allowed 4 hours to make repairs, do regular maintenance, and prepare for their record return runs the following morning.\u00a0The salt opens at 6 am, competitors\u00a0leave Impound at 7am, and are then escorted to their respective courses to backup their records. Getting to the salt in time to watch competitors warming up cars, doing any other last minute fixes, and seeing the excitement on their faces is one of the coolest things at Bonneville, and Bonneville Speed Week 2016 has been no different.<\/p>\n

There is something about watching the sun come up, with the best of the best in land speed racing around, that is so cool it defies description.<\/p>\n
