(Words and Photos by Benoit Pigeon) Every year in March is the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) Charity Car Show in Roanoke, VA. The show starts on Friday and runs through Sunday, and features a wide range of hot rods, muscle cars, race cars, and more. Two large halls at the Roanoke Civic Center are dedicated to the show cars, while outside is a swap meet, and even more cars. And, as is usually the case with most car shows, there are always a bunch of interesting cars hanging around on the streets or parked in the spectator’s lot. As small as the region is, with around 200k people living in or around neighboring valleys, it is the home for a few notorious people such as Morris Johnson Jr, Blake Alexander, and Matt Hagan. It’s not too surprising to see a helicopter turbine powered land speed record streamliner being build right here, next to some seriously clean street machines and show cars.
