(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – This is it. We’ve captured our last photos at the ECTA’s Ohio Mile. The Wilmington Air Park will serve more of its primary function by continuously using all runways. We’ve enjoyed having the venue only three miles from home and enjoyed the people even more. The LSR community is one of the best groups of folks around. Can’t say enough good about them. More about that later.

A few highlights….

We have always liked Keith Thompson’s blue, LS-powered 240Z and its LS-swapped S10 tow rig. The faux fuel injection stacks hiding the intake manifold is icing on the cake. Jeff Gentry’s Brown Clown streamliner lost an engine at the Summer meet back in June. Plans were to attempt swapping in a borrowed Ford cup motor (from another racer), but time was not on their side. The backup plan was initiated as the Don Martin Team SCAATY Studebaker coughed up its potent SBC for the effort. That thrash was rewarded with a great performance, new bests, and displaying many of the great traits of the land speed crowd.

Lastly was the very cool running of the Jesel Race Team’s land speed brick (Dodge Ram Quad-cab) complete with twin turbos and plenty of weight being wheeled by none other than Pro Stock veteran, Larry Morgan. Larry went through rookie orientation, but was not required to run the normal, obligatory incremental, passes to get the green light for 200+. Seems he has plenty of 200-plus passes under his belt. When the dust settled (and this truck moves a LOT of air) Larry had clocked a best 216mph. While waiting in staging to make another attempt they determined the spark plugs likely had not been changed in a few years and the thrash began….only to be sidelined by rain that ultimately concluded the event. As we’ve done for the last couple of events….below are the best speeds for most of the cars in this gallery. Enjoy.
