(Words and\u00a0photos by Doug Gregory) –\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Third installment from coverage of the last Ohio Mile land speed meet.\u00a0 Still no announcement of a new venue, but the ECTA folks are still searching and talking to sites in order to get us back to racing.\u00a0 Our hope is that it isn\u2019t so far away that we can\u2019t make it to events.\u00a0 We love land speed racing, but want the length to be at least a mile.\u00a0 Kicking off the summary from this gallery is the drop-dead gorgeous \u201966 Studebaker Commander of Larry Gibson.\u00a0 Such a nice piece of machinery and it bested 150mph.<\/p>\n

Next up is the \u201949 Stude pickup wheeled by Russ Jones.\u00a0 150mph in an old-school looking truck seems like it could be fun.\u00a0 Car 7551 is a LS-powered, naturally-aspirated \u201929 Ford Roadster looking like a lakester.\u00a0 This thing screamed to a best of a tick under 185mph.\u00a0 Nice.\u00a0 Danny Allen ran his \u201965 Chevy II wagon on drag week and it sees regular street duty propelled by a twin-turbo home-built LS2.\u00a0 This was Danny\u2019s first time to the LSR and he had to go through rookie orientation and step through the incremental speed runs to license.<\/p>\n

The crusty wagon is missing a few components needed for the nod to run 200+ so his fastest lap was 178mph.\u00a0 Mind you\u2026..this was at part-throttle and pedaling it because it was blowing through the converter on the shifts.\u00a0 There\u2019s more in it and we have the photos and details to bring you a feature on it soon.\u00a0 Enjoy.<\/p>\n
