The United Black Drag Racers Association has been unofficially around since the 1980s but officially since 1994 when they organized themselves formally. Originally born in the greater St. Louis area, the organization has grown over the years and events are held at several tracks across the country. The original “Black Sunday” racers were at the currently dormant Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois (right across the river from St. Louis).<\/p>\n

Our man Greg Rourke was on the scene at historic Byron Dragway to capture the action, and there was plenty of it! Through the day there was bracket racing, grudge racing, no time action, and the Midwest Super Stock Mafia to wow the crowds. Greg said that the place was jammed with cars and there were lots of paying spectators as well. He sent us more than 300 great photos from the pits, and the strip. Lots of wheels up action and interesting iron!<\/p>\n
