(Photos by Cole Reynolds) Planes and cars, they go together pretty well, especially when you consider that the very first hot rodders on the dry lake beds in California were working with a lot of parts and pieces from the aerospace industry that was rampant in these parts. So when you see the photos from the Camarillo Airport Autocross, that the gang at Speed Limit Racing puts on, you’ll really love the photos of the planes and helicopters that are everywhere as well. Sometimes you can be making an autocross run and have a plane on approach to land that is less than 100 feet above you. Sometimes WAY less. It sure is fun to watch, although it can sometimes be a little nerve racking as well. The cool factor makes it all worth it.

World War II planes, Vietnam Era helicopters, new helicopters and planes, as well as several really bitchin private jets were flying over the track on Saturday and Sunday last week and we wished we were in all of them. Cole got some good photos of the planes, and the cars, and sometimes both! But the real reason we were there was the on track action.

With a course that saw speeds approaching 100 mph, along with some nice technical tight spots, every competitor was having a great time putting their car or truck though its paces. We had half ton pickups, Vipers, Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, Miatas, Porsches, BMWs, Hondas, Cobras, and much more on site tearing up the asphalt and putting on a show. In fact, some drivers put on more of a show than they planned, spinning out and catching some of us off-guard. Cole however was on it and made sure he got pictures of all the action, good or bad.
