(Photos from Detroit Public Library Digital Collection) – From the earliest test versions of the Bantam Jeep to the slick press photos from the 1950s and 1960s, and the gritty days of the early 1900s, there’s something for everyone in here. If you love history, if you love trucks, and if you love seeing how things have evolved in this country not only in the marketing of vehicles but in the actual look of the places we live, you’ll dig the hell out of these photos. Yeah, I went face first back into the incredible Detroit Public Library digital archive and mined out another group of gnarly photos.

Among the highlights (for me anyway) are the photo of the guy on a horse in a shorted Chevy truck, the Dodge photo of the truck IN the football game, and howitzer being floated ashore by a DUKW amphibious truck that dates back to what seems to be WWII. You may not love all of these but there are a few that any gearhead worth his or her salt will see and say, “Woah!” The shot down into the hold of the military ship is another great one.

Heck, I am going back to see them all again right now!

Click the images below to expand them and then scroll through this treasure trove!
