What Better Way To Close Out The Show Than Nitro?"},"content":{"rendered":"
We’ve come to the end of the line for the 2018 Holley Hot Rod Reunion coverage, and as I promised, there is Cacklefest footage. I love seeing show cars, I love watching the racing go down, and I love the spectacle of it all. I loved watching Mendy Fry take the Top Fuel win this year. I loved cutting up with a whole cast of characters up in the press box during my cooldowns (very necessary, given the heat we all were enduring). I enjoyed meeting up with old friends and making some new ones, but when it comes to Hot Rod Reunion, there’s only two things that define it for me. One is that it marks my anniversary point with BangShift, and the other is Cacklefest, the ultimate show in my eyes for drag racing. Each car is introduced, then the candles are lit and everybody gets a taste of that eye-stinging, sinus-clearing, hurts-so-good whiff of nitro as the flames pop out of the headers. Engines are blipped, cutting through the idling with a sharp bark, Photographers and videographers run around like inmates after the cell doors accidentally open, trying to capture the beauty and ferocity of what’s taking place. Pipes glowed and at least one engine called it quits after a good “pop” noise was heard.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In the dark, it’s pure magic and you don’t get near enough time to soak it all in before every last engine shuts down and the crowds pour onto the racing surface to meet and greet with the drivers and to get up-close with these vintage machines.
