(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – If you like modern and older muscle-car era stuff then we’ve got three galleries that are right up your alley. I will mention a few in here that caught my attention for various reasons.

The ’60 B-body 4-door is dear to me. This car lived on a road about 1 mile from our house and it’s the first car my now-18yr-old son fell in love with. It had sat in a garage in Lexington since about 1976 when it came out to live in our neck of the woods around 2007. It sold a few years later and we sadly watched it leave then saw it again several times and my sons actually got to sit in it. We’d seen it sitting outside for years on the way to my son’s school then it disappeared again. We are happy to report it is now living in Harrodsburg and appears to be getting some much-needed TLC. Seeing it was like running into an old friend.

Next up is the Black Mustang with the turbo-breathed LS-swap. It has a roll bar and safety equipment…?! Let me qualify that statement. We’ve been going to Cynthiana for one reason or another for years and this relatively small town has a healthy population of quick Fox-body and newer Mustangs. Most roll on drag radials and skinnys and they nail the stance. Lots of turbos, nitrous, and superchargers. They typically don’t have one item of safety equipment installed. That why this car stuck out to me as a unicorn among the pony cars in this environment.

The Silver Pro Street Thunderbird took me back to the 90s when Pro Street got silly. Tubbed and otherwise near completely stock except for a single nitrous fogger setup. When Rick Dobbertin tubbed a Pontiac Grand AM….leaving it’s FWD drivetrain intact….the fad signaled it was near dead. Still, I like the Pro Street look because that was the big thing back in my 20s.

The fawn-beige ’61 Vette was sweet and dripped ‘survivor’ status. Never found anyone around it to ask, but I will keep an eye out for it to get the story.

Enjoy the photos and come back for a few more from the 2018 Cynthiana Rod Run.
