From its days as a little car show and rockabilly festival, Viva Las Vegas has grown into a colossus of a show that draws cars from around the country and hot rodders from around the world. It manages to combine the basic elements that every automotive event needs to have to succeed and has expounded on them perfectly. There’s the location, which is awesome as usual, there’s the participants that show up to take full advantage of the offerings that show organizers have created, and there’s the cars which have gotten cooler and cooler as time has worn on.

This is not a race car show. This is about hot rods and customs built in the traditional style like the machine in the lead photo. Shows like this keep the creative edge of the hobby alive. Yes, people may be building cars in the classic styles and with the classic looks of the 1950s and 1960s but they are doing it today and that means they are preserving not just the cars but the look and the techniques used to create them.

This is one of the most fun shows in the country and we have photos for days to show you from it. Here’s the first batch!
