If there was any doubt whatsoever about the potential of the new format of the fall Ford show at Beech Bend, it got put to bed immediately on Saturday. The fans showed up. The show cars showed up, and apparently someone made some calls to get even more drag and autocross cars into the gates. Saturday at the Holley Intergalactic Ford Fest was humming along nicely. Stacey David debuted his “V8 Interceptor” Mercury Cougar, and Josh Mazerolle and crew came down from New Hampshire with a new take on a widebody Toyota Hilux…this time, a fully widened, slightly lengthened monster packing a Power Stroke that had just been completed before the show before being driven to Bowling Green. And you thought his 1,000 horsepower LS-powered original was bonkers.

The show fields packed right up with a tasty assortment of Blue Oval delights. Take your pick…that Maverick sedan might not be what you were thinking of, but it’s low-mile, a 302/auto car, on dog dishes with the full interior. It’s good. On the other hand, that 1984 G.T. 350 has one word on the fender that should get you to pay attention: Dominator. A dealership-modification setup, the Dominator Mustangs were like a Yenko Camaro or a Mr. Norm’s anything. They packed power that would be solid today, and in the mid-1980s was jaw-dropping. We’re talking twelve second slips from a four-eyed Fox. That good.
