(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) –\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>While the four-wheel-drive truck tuggers are entertaining, the two-wheel-drive rigs are a completely different animal.<\/p>\n

As you might guess, steering is not something they get to do much of and there are no turning brakes like you\u2019d typically see in pulling.\u00a0 With the bucks-down nature of this sport the diffs either run a spool or a Lincoln locker (if I have to explain this to you, you\u2019re likely on the wrong website).\u00a0Running pie-cutters on the front and locked rear doesn\u2019t allow these things to maneuver very well getting into position.<\/p>\n

For all classes there are radios put in the truck for every tug so they can receive instruction from the pull director.\u00a0 There are also red and green lights to let the drivers know when to put the hammer down or stop.<\/p>\n

With these there are plenty of wheelies and bouncing while being ran hard putting on a show for the crowd.\u00a0Some trucks that used to be six-cylinder-powered are now running V8s, but a couple sixes remain and are very competitive.\u00a0 Lots of power doesn\u2019t help if you don\u2019t have bite.\u00a0 Tire pressures are low to give the biggest possible footprint and conform to the surface.<\/p>\n

Your eyes do not deceive you\u2026there are two very similar blue Ford pickups that are owned by the same family and finished 1 & 2 at this event.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t move around a lot for this event so the angle of the shots doesn\u2019t vary much.\u00a0 I promise to do better in the future.<\/p>\n
