(Words and Photos by Doug Gregory) We’ve attended at least one Sunday night cruise-in at Filmore’s for the last several years and most of those visits have been seen here on Bangshift. Also, most of those visits have followed trips to other events (generally in Ohio) and we hit Filmore’s on the way home. This trip was way different because we decided this would be the first cruise-in for my youngest son’s ’73 Ranchero. It was also the first time my son had driven on the interstate in anything. He did well and I survived the round trip so all good there. Filmore’s is a mom&pop, family-owned joint that has a full menu for a short-order café and serves some of the best milkshakes and malts that no chain store can replicate. Ray Dowers is the DJ that plays the tunes and keep folks entertained during the festivities. On any given Sunday evening through the warm months usually a hundred or more vehicles will come through the lot and I can attest to the difficulty trying to photograph all of it.

We return to Filmore’s because we never know what we’re going to see. Like any cruise there are regular, but I think the location and time of this cruise lends itself to a real diverse group that passes through. This was the first time I had seen multiple low-riders not only pass through, but park and hang out for any length of time. The blazer completely blew me away with it’s both over-the-top customization and attention to detail. The thing that blew my mind the most was having not one, but three clean RX7s pull in and each one was sporting a Holley-style 4-barrel…!!! These drew a crowd in a hurry and they ended up hanging out for quite a while. Even seeing one clean RX7 is a treat and having three pull in and park was something I don’t expect to see again. If you’ve grown tired of cruises being the same old thing you ought to give Filmore’s a try. Laid back, good eats, and lots of variety with nice people.
