(Words and photos by Tommy Lee Byrd) – It’s the time of year that Tommy Lee Byrd hits it hard, and he pulled a triple-header this weekend in Tennessee. Part one of the triple-header was the Pigeon Forge Rod

Run in the Smoky Mountains. This event was formerly known as the Grand Run, but the new LeConte Convention Center offered the perfect place for the show. The new and improved show had more cars and more vendors on display, but it’s the action on the street that brings out the big crowds.

Thousands upon thousands of cars fill the streets and parking lots of Pigeon Forge, and it’s a destination for folks all around the area. You’ll see average muscle cars, high end restorations, Pro Touring cars, gassers and just about everything in between. Rat rods, Pro Street cars and downright weird stuff (the Boat Car for instance) make this one of the most diverse car events anywhere. The nighttime antics offer plenty of entertainment, but don’t expect to see any burnouts—the local police force is STRONG on Rod Run weekends.
