(Words and photos by Tommy Lee Byrd) – Part two of Tommy Lee Byrd’s car guy weekend involved a hometown car show in Dayton, Tennessee. The proximity of the event allowed the whole family to participate, as you will see in the gallery.

The event is a benefit car show, in memory of Eric “Crash” Layne. Eric was a car guy who fought a hard battle with Lou Gherig’s disease. All proceeds from the show go directly to the ALS Association, an organization that helps individuals (and families) that are struggling with Lou Gherig’s disease. Eric passed away in 2011, but not before his mother (Annie) and step father (Charles) had his 1972 Plymouth ‘Cuda restored. The ‘Cuda was originally a small block car, but his dream was to make it a Hemi car—Charles did just that, shoehorning a Mopar Performance crate engine into the E-body engine bay. The ‘Cuda is always on display at any of Eric’s memorial events, as well as other local car shows and cruise in events.

The weather was absolutely perfect for a car show, and lots of folks came out to take part in the benefit show. Tommy Lee Byrd participated with his ’64 Corvette, while his wife Christina drove a ’64 Malibu more-door. Their daughter, Carlee, debuted her new ride, a Buick pedal car converted into a stroller.
