    Re: Rookie N2O Questions

I've heard of the NANO systems. Can't say I know much about it - hell, I know nothin' about nitrous! Evidently, having N2 over N2O is the same, chemically, as having air over N2O. Air is, of course, about 80% N2 anyway.

What I was wondering was if you evacuated the bottle could you stuff MORE N2O in the bottle because there would be less air in the way (say, 22 lbs instead of 20 lbs = a full bottle). But maybe that air (or N2) is needed to propel the nitrous - or something.

we used to freeze the bottles we filled. if we didnt freeze them, we had to use the pumping station...that thing would generate some heat ...

I was multi-tasking(not paying enough attention) one day, filling a bottle that had been in the ice machine for 2 days...it sucked down 13 pounds.... when the bottle thawed the pressure disc burst. spendy lesson for me to learn....

        From the Zex website:

"Never overfill nitrous cylinders: That little bit extra will put you and others at risk of injury. More often
than not, when the cylinder warms up, the pressure goes above the limit of the safety relief disc and you lose all
the nitrous you just paid for."

It's really no different than trying to glue them back on after she has her way.

Well, it was a thought....... I guess after running out at the track I was trying to figure out how to hedge my bets.

Which brings me to a question, I have an old bottle that appears on the outside to be in perfect shape, but it's out of date. At first I was just thinking about playing stupid, and see if I could get it filled without anyone noticing but this got me thinking. I also remember that guy in Georgia earlier this year, and a few other horror story's I've heard and am staring to think rationally again. So what do I do now? I have a few welding supply places around here, and there is a place in town that we get our Co2 bottles filled, could one of those places check it out and put a new date on it, or is there a better place?

My local welding supply does the tests for me, Hydrostatic test, once it passes they'll restamp it.

Dan - do you recall the charge? I'm not sure if either of mine are in date (new one isn't here yet). I got the first one (Sniper bottle) from Jay (jays67) and the kit and bottle both had some years on 'em. The Sniper bottle has about a million numbers/letters on it and the only thing that looks like a date is 11-01 - might be a little out of date. Is that what the date stamps look like? Anyhow, I should probably look into this.

Yea that's the stamp...I think General Air service charges $23 to test. I've been going to the one here since like 1984 and they still charge me 1984 prices for welding gas, N2O and bottle testing....I guess it's their way of rewarding me for being a good customer. I only paid $11 per bottle last year.

Plus I fill and test 6 bottles at a time ...

                    Re: Rookie N2O Questions

I just filled the Sniper bottle so I can chase leaks in my system so it'll have to wait until I use it up. The new bottle will get checked when it arrives. I'll try the local welding shops and find someone who can do it. At worst it'll go to Raleigh for a test. I wonder if any of the local welding gas guys can refill N2O bottles? Might be cheaper than the speed shop. I'll have to look into that, too.

                    Thanks
