Yeah. Much less work taking carbs on and off engine for everything minor tweak and fix. Besides you now have a reason to keep a can of Chemdip in your house. What an appetizing smell it has.

So I stripped a bowl screw putting the new blocks on.... As quick fix, I bought a 12-24 x 3" slotted machine screw and lopped 1/4" off the end. That will work until I can come up with a more permanent fix.

Flipped on the fuel pump and checked for leaks, then fired the car up. Started with the idle mixture screws 1-1/2 turns out and ended up with them at about 1-1/8th in the limited time I had to fiddle with it. Really seems to idle better now. It is supposed to rain later today so I decided against driving it back to work, but I reeeeeeally reeeeeeally wanted to.

    Good deal.

I've never had metering blocks with adjustable bleeds, etc., what's the indicator that you need "tune" the blocks?

I don't know either. haha The instructions said the factory settings would be fine for "most" engines. Usually though, mine falls outside the "most" category so I will cross that bridge when I have to.

Ok muscles, put away the impact before you take off a corner of the base plate too.

Wha? Doesn't everybody use a 1/2" drive impact to work on carbs? They work great to remove jets and air bleeds!

But I have personally seen someone using a 1/2 breaker bar on those little nuts holding the carb base plate and snap a corner right off.
