Ed Roth built a '55 Chevy with a 406 FE in it in the early '60s. But it was orange, if I recall correctly. It was featured in one of those Petersen Basic Hot Rodding books that they used to have in school libraries (imagine finding anything about hot rodding in a school library today)

there is a 57 bel air with a 390FE here in romeo mi... chevy guys give him hell its funny to look at there faces when he open the hood... he runs with a friend that run a 49 cadillac with a ford 460 very nice car on air ride..

I'd like to see the little girls who laid out the path last year drive any of those cars over it and compete... see how they do roadside welding with a cratered pan. Just sayin....
