Not really ready Don, but out by 20 minutes or so on time, and did not want to have a issue and make Mike or the rest waste time to worry about me, or make that a choice for them, thinking back I am iffy about not going on, but it made sense at the time.2007 SBN/A Drag Week Winner & First only SBN/A Car in the 9's Till 2012

Haha pulling out that first day is like going on a space walk. I *really am* about to drive this thing 400 miles....today... Right now... What was I thinking!?!??!Originally posted by BlueCuda340 View PostLast year was my first year also. I think the Tulsa to ennis leg was pretty memorable. Even though I have owned this car for more than half of my life it's never really been out of Tulsa. Getting to Muskogee was the farthest it had ever been. There's all those noises you hear, and the temp gauge moves a bit and it seems like its going to overheat but it's really only 3* warmer than it was earlier, was that a funny shift? Is the trans to hot? I think the rear end is howling more....etc,etc,etc lol.
I quit hearing the phantom noises and imaginary lifter failures...........on day 6.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

BBR, that reminds me of my first day 2011. I had blown up the engine a week before the start of DW and ordered new pistons etc overnight (costly way to do it) to try and get it back together. We thrashed on it mid week till we left sat morning. I drove it down the block and on the trailer. We got to the sunday reg about 10am and unloaded it and got in line. After we finally got through, I took it to make a pass(it had never been down ANY track at that point) and was sweating so much from worry, I could have filled up some of the dry lakes in Texas. I didnt know if it would hold together much less go straight. It did both perfectly and I called it a day. 2011 was an eventful DW year from start to finish.Last edited by poison gas; April 15, 2013, 08:51 PM.Go ahead, pull my finger.

Some of these are priceless... In particular, the "Big E, send me a message" had me rolling...
DW2013 - DNF (Gateway - trans failure)
DW2014 - SR BB/PA class winner!
DW2015 - Finished in 1 piece (for once!)
DW2016 - Still "Fox Free" ;)Comment

SO do you still listen to Elvis in that Dodge - or did the price of the new radiator turn you off to his music.
Ran out of bullets in Chicago Heights - that's funny right there, I grew up a few miles from there. There's always something new to learn.Comment

I know for me it was the first year we went. Pulled out of Columbus and drove on a pretty busy road leaving the racetrack. 5 miles into the journey I wondered what the hell we got ourselves into. All of our stuff is in the opposite direction and it wasnt going to get any better for several days. Kind of a gut wrenching feeling not knowing what to expect. People always ask what its like but you just cant describe it until youve done it. Driving 30 miles around your hometown just doesnt compare.Comment

I must say Chicago heights is one drive I will never forget. The most memorable has to be 09 when we brought a car with one test pass on it. We came planning on only running the first day and putting it on the trailer. Sitting in second place we decided what the hell we can do this. After over heating once an hour and battling fuel pump issues all week we made it. We ended up winning our class but that week felt like it was a month. It didn't help we got up at 2a.m. every morning to drive while it was cool out.Drag Week 2009 winner BB/NA

More great stories... hey Jake, speak up!
Chicago Heights was the year before my first DW. I grew up in the heart of the Motor City, so I would have felt right at home... sorry I missed it!
It just dawned on me that Jake hasn't posted here yet. His most memorable has to be a doozie! Uhhh, nevermind, it's probably not something he can post on a public forum.

and am not too sure Jake's most memorable drive has anything to do with the car.........(just a guess)Originally posted by ksuhre View PostChicago Heights was the year before my first DW. I grew up in the heart of the Motor City, so I would have felt right at home... sorry I missed it!

Bowling Green 2005. Carl Scott felt the need to destroy most of the pistons in his 555in bbc. After about 100 phone call's new pistons were located in Louisville. I rushed up to get the new parts while Carl and crew tore it apart. I made it to louisville with 5 min to spare. After a 4 hr mad thrash the engine was rebuild/ Did you know u can trim up piston rings with a angle grinder? We hit the road about 1 am for Columbus. I was leading the pack and keeping the speeds down when Carl called me and asked why I was going so slow.. so much for breakin!! We hauled ass all night, Made it to the track about 9am to everyone's suprise. Carl then busted off a 8.60 pass. no sleep for 48 hrs.used to be purplecobra, now just myself.
I still drive a mustang!!!!!Comment
