Fall of 1996. evenings were getting cold.
I was on a maine highway late at night, fresh after a build. My very first shake-a-mobile-home-park v8.
12 seconds after needle buried (that is how us 70s and 80s hot rodders drove with 85-110 mph speedometers), and about 3000 rpm climbed beyond its limits..
the sway of the chattering limited rear end told me around 150..it goes away around 160...just.. need... to.. get.. to.. 160.
like a brick wall around that speed. No wonder they want 600hp today.
two cops in the median. A quick glimpse like a photo.. I was trucking along. I let it keep climbing. 7 minutes approx. 15 miles, off an exit ramp and never seen again. I needed 1.5 miles to slow down.
To really add to no proof. I saw the blue lights go farther and farther away.
sold the car for $200.
I stretched the wheelbase, and crushed the crank journal. Never broke a rod.
