Cool, Pete. Glad to see it's coming along. Also good that you have a job! I find Boston a little conjested but there's fun stuff to do there, for sure.
My home built, Home-Depot throttle linkage works great. I'll rebuild it again so it looks better and is built better, but it has great response as is. The engine is running fantastic and I can't explain the feeling to stomp on it and hear the roar of a 4-bbl opening up on the straight six. And it pulls great. Obviously I'm a bit hopped up right now, but it has been a long time coming and pretty recently I was having a serious case of the car project blues.
I still have to decide whether or not to drive it 400 miles to Boston in two weeks. I still need a proper air cleaner (the one you see is cobbled together out of stuff I found in the garage) and to clean up some of the hoses and get some more lockwashwers and nuts on the linkage.

Looks friggin great mand! Are you going to leave the exhaust as is or are you going to go to a split manifold or a header?
I plan to use Langdon's split manifolds and dual exhaust with glasspacks. But I have plenty of other stuff to sort out first (HEI swap) and the custom dual exhaust will cost a pretty penny. But I can't wait to hear it then.
Thanks for the compliment!

I've always liked your Chevelle because it is so different from the norm. You hardly ever see a post car. I love how you resisted swapping out the sixer for a V8 of some kind.
Nice work on the linkage too. I hate to admit that hit up Home Depot every now and again for car fixes. I have Home Depot hardware to build a custom battery hold down for the Impala.

Someone on this thread mentioned a turbo or centrifugal blower.....DF(cough).....That would be sweet especially for Drag Week. Daily Driver Class! The six is different, and would be even cooler with a snail or procharger (or a combination of the two).
I'd say drive it if it's logistically realistic... but I would stop pretty often during the first leg of the trip to check things over, oil and coolant levels - and make sure that linkage isn't loosening up anywhere. Sure looks like a great setup - really nice detail work under the hood - great looking engine!
Hard to believe last post was in June, but such is life. Long story short, since I last reported I've moved to Belmont MA and started a new job that keeps me pretty busy plus family time. Plus I no longer keep the Chevelle at my house so it is harder to work on it. It is stored about a mile away which is pretty good, but there is no way to work on it there so it has to be driven to where I live and back, which is an impediment to tearing into things. And Boston winter is on the way...
I've tried to get it running better but I'm pretty inexperienced in the way of carbs and ignition so it's not working. I had gotten pretty discouraged with the whole thing and even sunk so low to consider selling it. I've gotten over that by accepting the fact that I should just get help finishing things. Once it is running well and I get a new exhaust system, I think it will be pretty kick-ass. I've chirped the wheels shifting into second (with the three on the tree ;D)
So Boston-area BS'ers, know of any reputable, reasonable mechanics who can help me out? I need basic tuning, maybe install my brand new HEI distributor that has been sitting in a box, maybe some other odds and ends, maybe a new exhaust system?

Pete, whenever you want, drop me a line and I'll put you in touch with a couple guys that can take great care of you. Also, whenever you're interested in doing car stuff or what not, lemme know!
I make the rounds to several shops every few weeks and there's always great stuff to see and BS about!
Hope all is well in Belmont. (If Mitt Romney runs for president again, the town will be busy!!!)
Hey Pete,
I grew up in Belmont and live not too far away now. I'm not a carb guy per se, but know the area and certainly some guys that can help you out. If you need any non-carb related help, feel free to reach out as I've no projects of my own right now.
