    Re: My 67 Chevelle 300

There are a plethora of books about "how to rebuild XXXXX engine".

There must be a dozen on the small block chevy.

I have one that's more about blue printing than just generic building - it's quite good - I'll be damned if I can remember the name of it!

I would say get yourself a service manual covering the engine you want to build - that will be a tremendous resource as far as clearances, assembly methods, torque values, etc.... then a more general rebuilding book - and of course ask questions here and you'll be all set!

Speaking of sixes - I have a line on a couple of 14:1 circle track sixes from a guy who used to race them. Nothing final yet, but I HAVE to consider them carefully. I know a guy who knows the guy kind of deal......... If they are what I think they are I'll have a spare lump port head - I'll let y'all know -

Uh, definitely let me know. I'm a bit scared about the 14:1 bit though. Did they mill the head to get that high?

    Re: My 67 Chevelle 300

The head on my 250 is cut about 0.070. It's a bit more than ideal (0.060) but it needed a bit of a cut to flatten it when I got it and it was cut 0.060 when originally built. My current head on your short block will yield something like 9.5:1. The 14:1 motors have WAY lumpy pistons to eat up the combustion chamber and achieve that number. It would be cool to buy the whole motor even if it needs to be freshened up as all the bits are there to make the CR work - pistons, rods, cam, etc, etc. We'll see what works out here.

BTW - where are you located now? Hope you're within traveling distance - love to hook up.

A bit further away, but nothing terrible. Just south of DC in VA.

    Re: My 67 Chevelle 300

I have old friends in Alexandria, so I now have a double excuse to head up there. Also, NARider (Todd) and the lovely Debbie are in Fredricksburg, so that's a triple excuse.

    Re: My 67 Chevelle 300

Sweet craigslist score! In my own backyard!

Picked this up for $100. Got so excited I didn't look at the bottom of the intake until I got home.

The bottom of the heat box on both sides is gone. Bummer. The 3 holleys and linkage might be worth the 100 bones themselves. The Offy intake is also plumbed for nitrous (which I don't really care about but gives the whole setup even more character.)

I don't know what I'll do with it yet, but I know three Holleys with those hats would look killer! I imagine it would be a pain to make it all work right.

The guy also had a "hot" 250 I could have picked up for another $100, but it had been sitting outside and all the "hot" details couldn't be verified visually. He is going to try to find some paperwork and maybe I'll go back and pick that up too. It is supposed to be a 194 head (which is good) and have 30 over 307 pistons (also potentially good) but his story didn't add up in spots and I was a bit suspect. I don't think it's going anywhere if I want to go back.
