Looking for a new set of spark plug wires. Last year on drag week we had two taylor plug wires pull apart. I have been looking at the moroso ultra 40's or the msd wires. What wires are you guys running?
What is the spark plug wire of choice?

I'm running Performance Distributors Dist and wires on the Buzz Bomb. While I got a new set, the old ones seem to have survived the fire with no major issues and are probably usable. Not sure if they make them or have them made by a contractor but they seem great. Not sure if I've put them thru the test that you 50K RPM drag racers would.

I don't know how they hold up on a big bad race care but i just use 8mm Accels and cut and put the ends on myself for a nice fit.Comment

IMO 99% of all the sparkplug wire BS is hype.... My wire is bigger than your wire, my wire has less ohms than your wire, mines better than yours....... Just marketing hype to sell wires, because in the end they all light the fire.........Originally posted by Yardpilot View PostKinda on and off the subject, but what's the diameter choice about? 7mm, 8mm, 8.5mm and like that.Last edited by TC; August 4, 2012, 03:14 PM.Comment

Oh boy. Here we go.
Anyway, I've been happy with the Taylor wires, and have had them on and off many times. I was fortunate enough to be able to use a friend's crimping tool when "building" them. He has made dozens of sets of wires (Taylor, mostly) and the investment was worth it for him... to only build one set of wires, the tool would be cost prohibitive.

me too.Originally posted by skullbucket View PostI don't know how they hold up on a big bad race care but i just use 8mm Accels and cut and put the ends on myself for a nice fit.
custom cut accel, it resemebles old fast copper wound, but with modern insulation. best I have had to date sitting on top of a flat engine . I have excess wire that has to sit in strange ways to equal length the wiring.
now it has a bigger ignition, another engine..same wires. no end to them it seems. the boots are cheesy at plug end, I learned to go easy. (save boots from another brand)Last edited by Barry Donovan; August 4, 2012, 04:40 PM.Previously boxer3main

As you learned 632Stang, they make them up to order for you so measuring carefully is the order of the day. I had mine made with the so-called ProMod boots, big, fat sorta pink looking things with a nice raised grip/lip at the end. I no longer have to run the woven plug wire boots I had to run with the MSD's.
I have the MSD tool equivelent to the Taylor one pictured as I made up my wires for a long time. MSD is a good quality product, but after a lot of reading and talking to folks who were runing the Firecore, I made the switch. I have no issues since and they've been on the car going on three years.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?Comment
