saw the photo from dead man's curve ...olds fiesta spinners , neat
          nj record had another article
PARSIPPANY ? Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly dominated the air waves.

Carhops, sock hops and drive-in movie theaters were all the rage.

And cars usually sported tail fins, chrome bumpers and a pair of fuzzy dice.

"The 50s were a great time for kids," said Bob Tramontin, of Blairstown. "It was a simpler time. Nobody was attached to their mother by cell phone. We didn't have a lot of money, but we didn't need a lot of money."

Tramontin's wife, Carol, agreed: "The only thing we had to do was be home before the street lights came on."

For the Tramontins, who both grew up in the 1950s, the annual LEAD EAST 50's party and car show is a chance to reminisce. They have attended the event for roughly 15 years now, and this year, brought their refurbished 1937 Ford hot rod with them.

"It's a step back in time for us," Bob Tramontin said.

Now in its 28th year, the LEAD EAST 50's party and car show features roughly 1,800 classic cars from 1972 and earlier, as well as a variety of 50's-inspired activities, including a senior prom, a sock hop, 12 drive-in movies, and live performances from 36 bands and doo wop a cappella groups. Conducted at the Parsippany Hilton, the event kicked off this past Wednesday, and will continue through Sunday.

"Music, cars, dancing ? it all fits together really well," said organizer Terry Cook, of Chester. "One weekend a year, I make 15,000 people really happy."

Irene DiGennaro of Long Island has been attending LEAD EAST for 27 years without fail. She comes with her husband, Joe; their grown children; and their Papillon, Bella. They also bring their refurbished 1957 Chevrolet, and 1963 Ford Falcon.

"It's a part of our life," she said, of the event. "It's a place you can come and have wholesome fun. It's a reunion every year for us. You can't understand it unless you experience it. It's a party for five days."

Dead Man's Curve party (pre Lead East party) - can you imagine hosting a party almost as big as the big dance itself. Rick Conklin can, he is the host and this is the party in his backyard

Rick in shades standing behind George Barris

One of Rick's farm trucks (retired)

I followed this junk under its own power on a public road into the driveway up to the party (Poison Arrow current national alcohol chamption according to driver's dad)

This is what you see when you pull into the Conklin driveway
