Real "LEGAL Street Racing" Downtown, Sioux City, Iowa.
For less money that an "Exhibition Driving" or "Drag Racing" ticket you can grudge race or just make passes on "Water Street", last year there was 184 cars in line for racing. The length of the strip is just short of an 1/8th mile. Safety is primary, to participate the car must be street legal, registered, insured and the driver must have a valid license. In the beginning the starting line was controlled with actual street lights and has evolved to a real "Christmas Tree" giving the racer a real "Drag Race" experience. Many local racers help out with tech, staging and starting line.
The organizers arrange for some local "Real Race Cars" to make a few exhibition passes. Local favorite Dan Harry ran his 815 Cubic Inch Outlaw Pro Stock Beretta as well as many others. Racing is offered Friday evening 6-10 PM and Saturday 4-10 PM.
The Show and Shine has grown to 375 cars with participants from over 5 states offering great cars and trucks from unique to high quality. The show covers 15 city blocks with a beer garden and live music to meet up with your friends. Food is offered from many street vendors as well as downtown restaurants including great sponsor Famous Dave's. Show and Shine is Friday evening 6 PM - 12 AM, and Saturday 10 AM - 8 PM.
“Cruise the Loop” which dates back to the glory days of the 60’s and 70’s is continual both evenings.
Sunday offers a cruise and swap meet to wrap up the weekend event.
This is a well organized weekend put together by a great bunch of “Car Guys and Gals”. Plan a trip to Sioux City Iowa July 19-21st and see what RockN Rods is all about.
Registration is required to show and race, for more information follow this link to the Rock n Rods web site http://www.siouxcityrocknrods.com/index.php
