    Tire Grinding Disc

Got Speedway's race catalog today. Pieces and parts for race cars, a binzoodle of fittings and stuff I for sure don't know what they are for. But Speedway invested in 400 pages' worth of various and sundry parts and odd tools and they thought enough of me and my money to make sure I got a copy of it in the snail mail.

Tire Grinding Disc. It fits a side grinder. It is what it is, you grind tires with it obviously. It says it makes tires come in faster, or you can use it to REFRESH USED TIRES.

Can I assume that this is for full race slicks for roundy-round short tracks on asphalt? Am I guessing that right? I mean, I'm not interested in grinding my tires, not the ones I have anyhow.

You are correct sir. The roundy round racers up here use them. The rat rod guys do too...

Me either PW, first time I saw someone do that I was like, that can't be safe!
It doesn't seem to affect the tire(s) too much. Check this one out, this guy's got balls...

          DAYum!

I'd have to imagine that it pertains to the particular use and application. I don't want to take ANYTHING off of the tire to run on a road course, the specialty tires are built to handle stress (very much to include lateral stress) at the factory. I'd guess, at least.

Balls? You mean balls at what he was doing (it sure looked dangerous)? Or balls believing that tire was still "good" when he got through with it? It might very well still be a good tire, in his application.

I think I'll have to pass on this one, I'm sure I have Coker tire's number somewhere.

really, there is a lot of rubber there, the worst part is cleaning up the mess when you are done and blowing black boogers for the next 2 days. ask me how i know... guy is nuts for running it on the car, but i have watched that video more than once!

The sidewall rubber is a little concern but the big fear would be something weird happening and gouging a good tire then having to buy another. IMHO save up and buy the tire! BUT to each his own, if you have the time and tire's get after it!
