This is the new project, it was /is in pretty sad shape. We bought this one at Charlotte last month at the Food Lion Auto Fair. Its a AMF Western Flyer Fire Chief. See the crease at the bottom of the quarter panel, it was at a 45 to the panel, its got many bumps and lumps, but time will heal the wounds, along with the body hammer and bondo. This will be lowered as much as can be but it will be riding on pneumatic tires and a custom frame. It will also be made into a pull wagon. Plans are for this one to be painted satin black and it will be striped by my oldest son Jerry Jr. The car is for his son,my grandson Kaydn. Here are a few pics of the body, the other pedal car for my son , and a Radio Flyer pedal cart that will donate tires, wheels, spindles and axle. The RF cart was picked up today for $10 at a yard sale.

Re: New pedal car project
Sweet.
I had the "Dude Wagon" version of that. I spray-painted it like a super-stock car and made Dad (a sheet metal worker at the time) build me an injector scoop for the hood, with working butterflys. It was pretty cool....

Re: New pedal car project
Oh that is too cool! When I was a rug rat for Christmas I got a pedal fire truck with itty bitty wooden ladders on holders on the side. I told Santa I wanted a tractor with spark plug wires, but he brought the fire truck instead. Nice.
Gosh, I haven't thought about that since then until I saw those pics. Cool.Charter member of the Turd Nuggets

Re: New pedal car project
Thanks for the stories and sharing your memories. While I am only 45, I am just at a point right now where I find building stuff for my young son and grandson rewarding, and its also pretty cool when the adults at shows come up to the kids and talk to them. Dig those old pics up and share.

In an effort to "go green," maybe we should put together the First Annual BangShift Pedal Car Drag Racing and Tractor Pulling Nationals.
Can you imagine Turk rolling smoke of the rear tires of a pedal car?
;D
RonIt's really no different than trying to glue them back on after she has her way.

Re: New pedal car project
Looks pretty close to the one I scored at a garage sale 7 years ago. I now have a 7 month old daughter and I need to get this one fixed up.
My wife assumes that I'm going to sand blast everything and give is a shiny coat of red paint.
But I'm not so sure I want to destroy all that hard earned patina ;)
Opinions?

Re: New pedal car project
There's a guy here in the area that has been
restoring pedal cars for many years.
Some of them bring real big bucks.
Pedal cars are cool.Thom
