I hate to be a car hater , but a PT just doesnt do it for me, it would have to be a last chance car if I had to have it.
when they first came out they was overpriced forever, now they have the resale value of a Yugo. People just act like they are so cool because they look like something of days gone by, but hey ,to each their own. Ditto on the HHR, looks cooler, has more balls, but still FWD.
I think a PT Cruiser gasser would be cool. Cars don't rust as bad as they once did, I'd buy a tired one, build a simple rectangle tube frame, a cage, and mount the body. I think it could be done fairly cheap. I once had plans to build a gasser style S10 pickup, or Blazer. Similar style to a Willys pickup, or Thames panel truck, in my opinion. Since it would only be a cruise night poser, I'd use a $100 305. Tunnel ram and fenderwell headers, straight axle, I figured about $5000 all in.
I do not like transverse drivetrains in anything.. the common crumple up and die or slam the engine through the firewall like a wrecking ball is a nightmare (think quick)
anyway, I got hit by a pt cruiser, and before the accident turned to hit and run, I noticed the front end held up smarter than expected to witness (I got thumped pretty hard on a steep hill from behind)...
even faking that curvy normal mounted appearance helped it some.
I always ponder a boxer hacked in for FWD that has something to remember. As It will never be the engine. :
I do like that hhr, have seen a couple.
