YES, the new machinery for building and replacing track is astounding to watch.
They can even remove the old ballast and lay down new without using a a ton of guys with shovels.

Interesting to read that. Last weekend I was walking along a RR track for about 1/2 mile, and noticed there was no separation or seam on the track. I thought "why" and wondered if the sections were welded together. This old dog can learn something new everyday. Thanks! ;)
My friend Russ, just retired from the railroad and he gave me an old RR hand held grinder. It is the biggest SOB I have ever seen. When you latch onto that thing you better be serious and so should the item you intend to grind on ! Railroad folks don't play around, when it comes to work.
