      Re: Engine Masters Challenge 2011

You know, I started this topic in hopes of focusing on an EMC effort for 2011. If we have to spend our time arguing about what costs what, rehash the EFI v. Carb debate ad nauseum, then I'll have the topic locked and you guys can find out what we're doing next October.

Keep your crap out...stay on topic. Or just watch. I'm not putting up with this crap.

With things cleaned up, we'll go forward. If the crap continues we won't.

        Carry on.

I am interested in seeing what kind of induction system you are going to run with once the rules have been released. I guess we will find out if custom sheetmetal intakes can be used or if you have to use a cast aluminim intake. I appreciate those who look forward to a challenge, and with an early hemi and the lack of readily available cast intakes, you may have a challenge on your hands.

Good luck with the build and keep us posted!

                  From a thread on Speedtalk:

Here's the little info that I have.
General rules: One warm up pull, 18 minutes tuning and qualifying pulls included. You have to mention if the pulls being performed is tuning or qualifying. Procedures are the same in both classes.

                  There will be two classes:
One called Xtreme Street Division Any cast intake, any OEM or commercially available block is permitted. Cast Iron or Aluminum.
Any domestic or commercially available cylinder head. Casting #s cast in the head. No billet heads. Purpose built cylinder heads permitted. Welding inside cylinder heads permitted. Unlimited porting polishing welding inside of intake or exhaust ports is permitted. Modification of exterior surfaces is not allowed. Welding inside combustion chamber or altering placement of valve and or spark plug permitted. Fuel Q-16. Carburetors: Any single any OEM or commercially available with maximum throttle bore area of 22 square inches is acceptable. Any cam, lifter, allowed (unlimited). Any connecting rod permitted. Gas ported pistons permitted, any compression ratio. 3500 to 7500 RPM.
Any commercially available electronic fuel injection.

The second class will be called Street Division 2500 to 6500 RPM running VP's 100 Octane fuel. Any normally aspirated gasoline powered domestic V8. Cyl heads must be same type and configuration as in OEM passenger car production. Ford Cleveland, and Windsor or modified type Cyl heads permitted on Ford Engine. Non OEM Cyl heads (Hemi heads on a Chevy) not allowed.
minimum 280 Cu/In. Any OEM or commercially available block is permitted. Cast Iron or Aluminum. Block must retain OEM Cylinder bore and block angle. Lifter bores may be bushed.
Any domestic OEM or pass car, or commercially available aftermarket OEM replacement 2-valves/cyl cylinder heads that meet all other rules are acceptable. Raised runner heads as defined by a cylinder heads requiring spacer plates or that is not compatible with OE width intake manifold for the engine type are prohibited. Purpose built racing heads (GM DRCE, BIG CHIEF ... and other similar heads) not allowed. Welding inside combustion chamber or altering spark plug location prohibited. Any single OEM or comercially available carb with a max throttle bore size of 1.690". OEM Q-Jet , Edelbrock, Thermoquad acceptable. Injection: custom welded bungs added to intake manifold permitted.
Intake manifold, single or dual plane cast iron or aluminum for carbs. If fuel injection, single or dual plane cast iron or aluminum single 4 barrel or must be composite design. Fuel injection manifolds with Tunnel Ram bottom sections prohibited. (I think this one aims directly at Dan)
General statements that apply to carb or injection manifolds: Manifold must be commercially available, porting polishing, welding, filling, sizing on the inside of manifold acceptable. No exterior mods allowed that increase or alter port design.
Any commercially available steel only connecting rods are acceptable.
Any commercially available aluminum pistons maximum 11.5 CR.
                  Any commercially available rocker arms.
Camshaft must be OEM diameter. No roller bearings. Any lifter permitted . Max .650" lift checked at retainer with ZERO lash.
Any commercially available crank. Any bore and stroke combination.

Looks like its on...We should be able to do the things that we planned.

Although the manifold restrictions on the street division look aimed at Cap't Danny's wild ass manifold. Time to start scheming.

just looking at some hokey john deere diesel to gas 4 cylinder project at 'st alk'
seems like some out there wants to turn engine masters into some kind of mixed up engine forum for every philosophy
                      including formula one
I thought it was for how much you power can be made with a pump gas , carbed traditional muscle car V8 with the opportunity to pit ham and eggers vs some big names

we have a forum for that , it's called NHRA competition eliminator

                        Re: Engine Masters Challenge 2011

Speedtalk has quite a variety of guys talking about some pretty far out projects. The JD diesel with a Caddy head is one of our Cap't Danny's wild projects. The guy really thinks out of the box. Its for an LSR lakester project.

EMC still remains a domestic V8 competition. And, us shmoes will still be going up against the pros.

They changed the gas requirements for 2011 after the problems last year.

                            100 for the street division

q16 for extreme division. We aren't going there, I think.

Last year was supposed to be 91...but Rocket doesn't make a 91 and the special blend they made, right or wrong, was criticized.
