There was a pretty good interview of Danica on CNN this morning. The weight thing came up and she said that she had told somebody that said that, that if her lack of weight really mattered she would have won a long time ago! I love her style.

Indy cars lost it for me way back when Nigel Mansell came over from F1 and smoked everyone straight away! And I've never been a big fan of F1 either. Your only talking about this because a woman won. Good for her she can obviously drive pretty good ,but big deal, we wouldn't be talking about it now if she wasn't a woman. Which makes me wonder: What can a woman do better than a man? Don't trot out that inane crap about ooh they re better carers or they can multi-skill, I'm talking anything measurable or quantifiable. Nothing I can think of! Otherwise this post wouldn't exist. Sure, she won on the day, but if women were equal it wouldn't be a big deal. :

Ya know your right... we wouldn't be talking about this if she was a He... but she's not... and consequently it takes a different skill set then you and I...

Tonya's been driving for 5 yrs now... and she's not as good as she'd like to be...but I'm here to tell you that she has More courage then just about any one of us... When I put her in a car that runs well past 200mph and she does her thing... it's pretty damn impressive for a career mother that had never been over 80mph in her life...

When I put her in a car that runs well past 200mph and she does her thing... it's pretty damn impressive for a career mother that had never been over 80mph in her life...

The best part is she has the guts to even try it, and she likes it. The fear of trying, keep most of us from greatness, gal or guy.

For those that complain on her shape, AJ had to quit driving because, they could no longer get a car to fit, his last two where made with bigger tubs. She will fill out when she retires, but she is hot now!

Storytime: I was riding in the back seat of Keith's truck as they pushed Tonya off in the Berkley at El Mirage 2 years ago. The starter in the car was dead, so they agreed at the last minute to "bump start" and GO. Now, there's a LOT of planning that goes into a start in LSR (as opposed to drag racing) and the last minute change was a big deal. No problem, he walked Tonya through the process, she's like "OK!"

Our turn comes, we push the car off, she pop starts it about 30mph and gets on it. The motor hits the powerband and the car goes SIDEWAYS on her. Not just a little, but like full steering lock sideways. Enough that it momentarily scared the $h1t out of us in the push truck. Before anyone had a chance to say anything about it (less than 1 full second I'd say), she's off the throttle, counter steers to straighten out the car, and back in it at WOT. Keith, you remember, and don't act like that wasn't a scary moment!! I was impressed with how quick she corrected the situation.

I saw the photo of Tonya before I read the explanation.
I assumed that she was pulling that little thing back to the pits! HA!

It's funny. Keith and Tonya compliment each other very well. A very Yin and Yang situation happening in many aspects there. Selfishly, I'd say it's good for all of us that they managed to find each other as their support of many events and things we all love to do allow them to exist or operate in a safe and very smooth manner.

There are lots of racing people all torqued up about how big a deal is being made of Danica's accomplishment as women have been hauling ass in one form or another for just about as long as the dudes have been. From a business perspective IndyCar must be salivating. The upside that they can sell to potential sponsors is big here. Drag racing has done a horrific job of it thus far so we can all see if they do any better.

she took the lead because Helio was almost out of gas. She won because of really good pit strategy. She said that in her interview. Not saying she's not "all that" but there's more to the win than great driving, to be sure. Check out the youtube video, the "winning pass" looked like a maneuver in the grocery store parking lot. Luck and strategy for sure.


And look at all those empty seats in the stands. I still blame Tony George for ruining this kind of racing.

I gotta tell you Scott... I agree... Tony George has the right to do anything he wants to Indy... he OWNS the Venue... but like Many other things he has an obligation to those of us that hold it in reverence... Indy car racing sucks unless it's AT INDY... and not a given that Penske is going to win...
