Maybe coupes weren't as readily available in Australia? Did they have the larger cars like here as larger cars are easier to get in and out of coupes?
I graduated high school in 1970. 4doors were family cars coupes were and are sportier looking and most associated with performance.
We wanted go fast cars and todays kids want go fast stereo's which werent available to us.

The 72 Satellite is a 4 door only car starting in 72 so there is nothing else to do to it but drive it or make movies and crash lots of them!
I would put a set of 3 inch exhaust and glasspacks on it and go nuts in first gear!

Back in the early 60's my dad bought a used 55 Desoto. That was a nice car, we only had about a year or two before dad traded it in for a new 63 stripped down Rambler Classic....nothing classic about that heh? Before the Desoto, we had a 47 Dodge.

Here in Aus the big three didn't offer a two door option until the late 60's for GM, and early 70's for Ford and Chrysler.

GM had two shapes of 2 doors one 68-71 and the next ending in 78. Ford 1, 72ish - 79. Chrysler 2 at the same time 72ish again - about 77.

I also think we look at them and say that they are the same underneath!

you build what you can afford and what you can find. If you are not looking to flip a car for 25k and just want to drive an antique then nothing wrong with four doors. Like people say, thats all you can really buy now anyway. Theres no overseas metal available for them so its best to just need small patches you can handle, as far as rust is concerned and keep the investment low enough that you will remain happy with the car.

So you built what you had...interesting.

                          IMO

Sorry for reviving an older thread. This is my first time visiting. This post is how I found this website through google search. My answer is hell yeah I would...three years ago I would have said no...I bought my first muscle car, a two door '71 Ford Torino...then about six months later I bought a 4-door post as a donor car to fix up the two door. But after two years of not being able to get the Title to the two door I wound up registering the 4-door...now I'm glad I did...she has a 351C...with an auto unfortinately...but I got a great deal on her...traded a 91 mustang I had wrecked and a 91 Ranger for it...lucky for me the guy thought it was a Windsor...and had no idea how to tune a Carb...I love this car though...I drive her every day...and regularly show up the Tuners at the red lights...it handles the same and is just as fun...but I agree with an earlier post...I would not make a 4-door look like its been built up...I would make a sleeper out of it...and I plan to whenever I have the money

That there is a red flag, if you have to worry about a budget you don't need a car to fix up on because it will keep you poor and the car will end up in the back yard as a dog house.
