shipping tailpipes

i took the exhaust off the monte a few days ago and im only going to put the h-pipe and mufflers back on with turndowns after the mufflers and i figured id put the tailpipes up on ebay and sell them. but i was wondering how id ship them and if i had to put them in a huge box or if i could just wrap them in brown paper and write an address on them

so if anybody has shipped anything that big before and could tell me how it can be done as easily as possible would be a huge help, thanks!

it's not such a huge box really - but it is long. Go by the appliance stores and see if you can have a refrigerator box. It will cost a little more because it is irregular. I had somebody ship me an old motorcycle frame one time by just putting a tag on it, they'll do it, but it has to be clean. Flowmaster sends theirs in pretty long boxes, about 4' IIRC.

If they'll let you wrap and send, I'd Zip tie them toghether in about five zillion places, and INSURE them! Require insurance from the buyer. Good luck, most guys will buy new or go to the shop and have them done.

I just don't think it would be worth it.
I can get two tail pipes made for just about anything in the $75 or less range at the local muffler shop.
Shipping would have to be $50?

that is an odd one to ship. try local sale?

you can even make a close tolerance header out of the compact shipping pretzel pipe...buying it all shaped up and shipped is for companies that get it by truckloads to save money for customers.

I ordered a rocker that came in a 7 foot box, only for needing to verify a chassis length and intricate shapes spanning 6 feet. An error there un unibodiy is a cockeyed ride.

anyway, pipes are easy. weird to ship individual... like selling a dollar for 2.

ill probably just throw them up on craigslist, but i hate dealing with most of the people who use that website, im sure somehow somebody would find a way to ask me 20 different questions about tailpipes before they plopped down $50 for them. id rather just throw them up on ebay with no reserve and if they sell for $30-40 thats fine with me

More than that...... You can count USPS out, they have size restrictions, so unless you cut the exhaust up and fit it in box that meets their limits you can't use them and they are usually the cheapest unless you have an account with UPS or the like..........

All of them will charge you an irregular size charge, but expect to pay well over $100 to ship with the big boy carriers like UPS, Fedex, Ontrac, etc...........

^^^^ What TC said........... and the "stick a label straight on it" type of shipping has additional charges as well. You'd think it would be cheaper with no box - it is not.

Seriously, I'd just toss them in my barn. Seems I always end up needing a bend that I can cut out of some old tailpipes, they come in handy at times.

Or keep them for gravy on the deal where you trade the Monte.......
