My dad was known to park vehicles on the property of the note holder and put the keys in the mail or night deposit box.

Dropping car off and turning keys in could end up as a negative on your credit report.

You could try to call lease company and negotiate an early release. Give 'em the big sob story.

Here's a link to a sight that might help.......just found it on the web.

You'd probably want a lawyer where you live to look at the problem under your state's laws (internet advice is generally worth what it costs).

As for helping yourself, step one would be to read all that fine print that nobody ever reads before signing to see if the lease has an early termination provision and/or penalty. If not, is there some defect with the vehicle (that you didn't cause) that makes it not what you thought you were getting?

Then read to see whether the lease is transferrable and how. Then read to see if disputes between you and the leasing company require arbitration, mediation, or regular old lawsuits.

After you have knowledge of your lease rights, there may be an apparent way out of the "trap." Following all lease termination/dispute provisions "to the letter" will give you a better chance of skipping out with some or all of your credit intact.

What about an involuntary burn to the ground? Broken fuel rail on a car left idling somewhere......things happen.

In dad's case it was just before filing for bankruptcy.
