Re: Pictures of your current car(s)
The strip in the video is Warricks Dragstrip in South Butler NY. The track was previously known as Jackson's and then King's Dragstrip. It is located in a field surrounded by farm land. It was built in the '50s and closed in '77. It was reopened in 2003 for a 3 day weekend nostalgia drag event, with some success. In 2004 monthly races were scheduled and held with roughly 50-60 cars showing up to race. There are 3 classes, stock, modified, and pro, with all classes running heads up. It costs $15.00 to race all day. You would probably make 10-12 runs, then with one hour left, it was grudge match racing. There was one weekend when they ran Sat. and Sun. I was able to make 34 runs, set low reaction time one day (.502) and had one of the best times racing anywhere. It is a laid back setting with most of the guys that are racing just doing it because they are sick of sitting around at car shows. There are a few 9 sec. cars but most are in the 12-14 sec. range. There is no money, no trophies, just good times. There is a local guy who sets up a video camera at the starting line and at the finish line, and captures all the action. After he edits it you can buy it in VHS or DVD format at the next months race.
It was fun to race there with old friends (I used to live close by) and I was able to make it to nearly every race even though it took me about 5 1/2 hours to get there.
This past year there was an accident at the track, and a few people got hurt. They said they would not sue because they knew it would end all our fun, but the accident made the local news and papers. I suspect a lawyer talked them into pursuing legal action and it looks like racing is done there for good. We'll see what happens.
Here's a video of my truck against a 496 Camaro. Yeah, I got a red light. I'm not that bad, honest. The timing system is set up before each race, and the roll out was shorter in that lane on that day.
