  • Approximate 1/4 mile ET for 160mph Dodge Viper

My son-in-law's cousin has a professionally built supercharged Dodge Viper that I've ridden in once and it was scary fast for a street car (at least to me). He decided to have a roll bar and other safety equipment installed so he could try it out at the drags strip. My son-in-law told me today that his cousin went to the drags (in Houston I think) this past weekend and it ran over 160mph in the 1/4. It was spinning through the first 4 gears and started hooking up some in 5th gear. This Viper isn't setup for drag racing and he was running on big Mickey Thompson street slicks. It's supposed to have a top speed of 268mph according to the cousin. I was wondering if anybody has an educated guess as to what his ET might be at this speed?

    Thanks,
    Victor

268 mph? Wow... I would really like to see that. I know top alcohol funny cars that would be hard pressed to run that speed.
It's really no different than trying to glue them back on after she has her way.

just watch some videos that show timers at the end of run. Cameras don't do much justice, but maybe the numbers can help.

160 is quite outrageous for street machine.

the confusing part when things get real fast..
a 13 second quarter at 33mph .. stuff like that.

there are some screaming at 10.5 seconds, yet a whispering 4000 pound sedan can go there too well rounded.

all fun. all ends up an average called fuel.

ET calculators are useless, if you know my nicknames meaning. Alot of drivetrains go way different than a calculator.

my own at 110hp is 13 something seconds, a calculator has it at high 17s.

can only try. the fun is there.

          squirrel,
That was my guess if he can get it to hook. I think he's running about mid nines now. When I rode in it he punched it at about 60mph and it started skating around. I got instant goose bumps. He let up and shifted to the next gear and eased back into the throttle. It got enough traction to get to 140mph in just a few seconds. I let him know I was impressed enough and not to go any faster. At 140mph it was pulling as hard as it was at 60mph. This isn't a Viper that somebody just bolted a supercharger on. It's been bored, balanced, heads ported, has a complete new performance exhaust system and all internal engine parts have been replaced. He hasn't driven it 268mph himself, the company that built it told him they had tested it up to that speed. Since I rode in it he has had the engine rebuilt, more modifications done and a new supercharger installed. This really isn't what I'd really call a street car. I'm hoping he'll put in some lower gears, mount some good slicks on it and try again. I'm going to watch next time!
