  • How much HP?

396 BBC with pocket ported early (mid 60's) bath tub chamber heads (10-1), Comp 270H cam (5.10 lift, 110 lobes, 224 @ .050), C396 intake, 750 street HP Holley. What HP would you expect?

Yeah I'd say 400hp plus.......I've seen stock 325hp 396's (402's) add 80-100 hp with cam upgrade, intake change, head work etc.
What kind of pistons are you using?

Stock type domes. The customer's hoping for 375, but I'd love to call him from the dyno room with something North of 400

I'd bet you can get 440hp. what's the prize for who ever guesses the closet to what it actually pegs?... eh?

I'm usually more interested in how much torque it will make.

True, but I was never totally clear on the seamingly fuzzy line for me between the 2. Seems it's usually hard to have much of 1 without the other(?). ALL my tuning in the past was at the strip. (ET/MPH-instead of TQ/HP)

That's the way we did it back in the day......make a pass, come back and tune.

More often than not... they have less than what you were either thinking of or hoping for.

I remember a magazine build w/ more cam, porting...just a little bit more of everything, where they just touched on 500. 396's love compression and breathing mods, I'd bet $10 that with everything dialed in it might see 420 at six grand.
