Re: Man, trucks are cheap now

I work at Ford - if anyone wants an F or E series - now would be a good time!

We are selling these things incredibly cheap - and the '09's are coming now so '08's are getting even cheaper.

I sold my '99 zx2 escort - clean but starting to rust, with 198,000 miles on it for $1500 - I paid $1100 2 years ago.

I'm thinking about starting to buy econo boxes with blown head gaskets and the like - and turning them for $$ to buy hot rod parts. A buddy got a saturn with a blown head for $200, has about $550 into parts fixing it and has it for sale for $2500... he'll likely get it and soon.
There's always something new to learn.

Nissan is doing that here. Buy a Titan at full price and get a free Versa. Even my hardened Bowtie buddy is being tempted by that deal to replace his 97 GMC as his driver and give his wife the Versa and trade in her 4runner on the deal.

I thought my Dad was doing good when he got a new Silverado LT for under 15k last year. That HD truck is a whale of a deal.

Re: Man, trucks are cheap now

See, here is what gets me, I'm the type where I actually WANT a new 3/4 ton truck.
But, I figure my '79 f150 4x4, is the last of the straight axle 4x4's, it's beyond cheap for me to insure, plate, and that by far offsets the cost of fuel for me. I spend around $55 a week to fill it if I am not driving all over hell and back, but as long as I don't step into it hard it does ok for a 400 V8.
I keep seeing ads here for the local chevy dealer selling I think 2500hd silverados for like $17k for a 4x4.
I'd rather still have a 1/2 ton f series 4x4, I love the styling, and I'll be one of the guys taking a 5.4. I wouldn't mind a superduty, but I sort of grew up liking the international powerstroke setup, but I can't justify a 3/4 ton for a daily driver...not pulling a trailer much at all any more so why bother, when my '79 filled up with 91 pulls just fine at 80mph and 9 mpg with no payment to the bank each month.

I keep thinking I really want to build a 2wd ranger extended cab, front runner style, lifted with the baja fenders and box sides...some mild mud tires and a simple lift. Nothing nuts, just a fun DD truck. Then I say to hell with it and keep driving the '79. -shrug-
