Holley fuel bowl difference (rubber diaphram vs checkball acc. pump)

What are your guys feelings on which is the best? I currently have two carbs, one with the check ball for accelerator pump, and the other has a little red rubber diaphram flap thingy.

I'm not sure which is better - but I have a feeling about which is cheaper!

Seems the newer carbs like the one I took the pics of in the other thread - have the rubber umbrella deal... and the cheaper carbs like the 1850 600 vacs have always had them (side hung float bowls)

The older double pumpers always had the ball checks, as I recall the rebuild kits had a spec for a clearance you were supposed to check between the ball and the little flat bar that holds it in place.

I'm curious as to what the "high end" carbs have. I'll have to check what the demon has - I can't remember.

My 850 dp has the rubber diaphram set up. It's a newer carb because of the bolt type bowl screws and a factory installed power valve protector.

Yea - I have a feeling the red rubber umbrella is a cost cutting measure.

I spent some time filing on my 4777 last night - the castings aren't the best compared to the older ones... the shiny silver finish does appear to be friendlier to gaskets - but I'll probably still use grease, chapstick, pam, silicone spray or something to help keep them from ripping apart when swapping jets / powervalves, etc..

Pretty much all newer carbs (except remans) and all your high ends like Barry Brant and Quick Fuel uses the rubber.
