  • Removing Leaf Spring Isolators

Hey everyone, I have a question on removing the leaf spring isolator pads on my 79 Camaro, I would like to use solid locator blocks on top instead of the rubber stockers. Does anyone make a steel replacement for between the leaf spring top and bottom of diff perch pad ? or is there any easy way to do this? Thanks

How thick does it need to be? Does it need to be a 'wedge' for pinion angle?

The one with the hump is the upper that has a round hole on the bottom for the spring pin bolt head to locate in and the top hump locates in a valley in the bottom of the spring perch on the diff leaf mount. They are 1/2" height. Thanks

So the axle stays positively located on the springs and doesn't move around on hard launch. A lot of people mount the axle solidly on leaf spring cars but most have a modified spring perch or a ford 9" or what ever, I'm trying to find an easy way to do this without pulling the diff out and welding in locater pads to the perch bottom. Like this one in pic.

Just get a piece of 3/16 strap that is the same width as your leaf spring. Cut the length, drill your hole, and weld it in. Done.

If you want to get extra fancy, make the piece long and after welding it into the perch, bend it up to meet at the top of the axle tube. Weld and hammer a little at a time and it will wrap all the way up and you can then weld it to the tube for extra strength. I've done it too many times to count. Cheap, easy, strong.

              Go for it.
