    mopar cam question

Best cam for a 383 with dual fours in a 3700lb car with 3.91's. converter will be based on cam. Want something that will have a nice chop to it. Engine has 10.1 compression. This is going into a stock engine with a few miles on it. Only want to change valve springs. Do not want to get into messing with aftermarket valve train parts. car will be a fun cruiser.

The first one looks like a good match, Camquest 6 agrees.

      Dual 4's?

      Dual plane or tunnel ram?

Dual plane, go with a .484/284 MP cam. You will NOT be dissatisfied with the chop!

Tunnel ram? See DF's 383 intake comparo... good stuff there.
Take a look at how we made our addicting ebay habit into a compiled list of manifold's and their specs.

It's an old school Offenhauser dual plane. I was thinking of the mp484 "purple shaft" cam. What about springs and such? they don't seem to offer a kit with everything with the purple shafts.

          I like the second cam.

Both cams have a 110 lsa which will help with the chop at idle, but the second cam has a little more exhaust duration, which will add a little more of a pop at idle.

Even though, either way I don't you can go wrong. ;)

I run single springs with a damper, similar to the factory 383 Magnum springs on my .484/284. Works great to 5500 rpm. With that Offy, you are not going to experience a lot of RPM. In all seriousness, you would be better off with a single 4 intake on that heavy beast. I know, the shock value is cool, but you are going to have to make some concessions for it if you insist on using it.

4:10 or 4:30 gears (this thing will not have much torque)
            3500 stall
Manual valve body (have you ever tried to hook up a Mopar kickdown linkage to a dual quad setup?)
PROGRESSIVE throttle linkage. (mechanical linkage will give you a bog from hell)
Lots (and I mean LOTS) of tinkering.

it'll have 3.91's for now. i was thinking of about 3400-3600 stall. But i'm using a '65 727, (27 spline) cause it's a cable shift trans and will still let me use the pushbuttons, which i'm not sure if they would work with a man valve body.
I'm going for a What if" 58 fury wagon look. If i can't get the quads to run right, i'll do a good single plane. am not looking to make anything fast, say just mid 13's. would be fine. But a nice cruiser that has a good chop to the idle, and enough snot for passing on the hiway.

I won't be doing the fine tuning, that will be handled by a friend who has done these setups before.
              Thank you for your advice.
