  • Carb question

I have a question, I was having a hesitation so I put a bigger shooter in. It seemed to solve the problem but before it looked like a squirt gun, now it comes out like a garden hose. It runs better so what do you think is up with that?
Should I just not worry about it?

Garden hose huh? that's a big squirter! Did you go from one that has the extensions on to one that didn't?

The engine must have wanted more fuel for the transitions - and the larger nozzle took care of that evidently - as far as spray pattern - I got nothin.

I would be looking at the Tranfer slot location to the throttle plate at a idle ( is it a square) and the proper Power Valve if it has one

Okay, I'll go look at that. "Is it square? no, I don't think so.
I'm also wondering why I would have to play around with this....Nothing has changed.

Good call, I've got nothing showing..
You make this too easy, I'm going go fix it and put it back the way it was. I'll let you know how that works.

I was thinking about the gas too. Thanks

Oh, one more thing, when I looked down there gas was puddling up on top of the secondary blades. I don't know whats going on with this thing. Let me fix it and I'll see if that goes away.

Could just be winter storage demons - double check your float settings too.

That seemed to be it. Luckly I have a little screwdriver bit that I can use on a 1/4 ratchet so I don't have to take the carb off.
                  Thanks everyone.

If I remember right you don't want more than .060 of the transfer slot showing........

I don't know what exactly it is, it's close to what Jeff said, a square. It also seemed to make the linkage look better, it had about an 1/8th inch gap on the secondarys that just didn't look right. It's not all the way but it sure looks better, if that means anything.
I had the carb off to clean and store it for the winter, it was running ok, but I haven't really been getting on it to notice the hesitation. It was slight, but enough that I had to fix it.

If your low on the transfer (none showing it will bog , or pump shot to cover it) if its high it will pull off the mains and the idle mixe wont work. The square works good for "NET" tunes LOL then use the secondary's to set speed or the static timing to help ( I like lots of static timing)

Static? do you mean you like a lot of the slot under the blade?

nope, the slot should be a square.

Static as in timing if I am running 36* then if I can lock it at 36* I will do that or if I cant I will put as much base (static) 25* and 11 mech advance as I can as quick as I can in it. I shut them off in gear and spin them over and turn a switch on for power to the ign if it does not have a start retard.

                            Make better sense?

Oh, okay, I thought you were talking about timing the linkage. I was thinking about trying 87 octane and probably moving the timing down a little, but I wanted to figure out my issue first.
                              Thanks
