    Tunnel ram carb linkage

I'm going to be running a Tunnel Ram on my 41 Pontiac. It's in the 5 grand challenge thread. I have a .040" over 350 ci with a 383 kit. I have twin 450 cfm holleys. Should I pursue a progressive linkage set up, or should both carbs work together simultaneous .

how much gear and stall does it have? If it can rev freely, you probably don't need progressive.

Right now the rear end has 3:50 gears, in a Ford 9". Have a TH 350, with a Hughes 3000 stall convertor.

street or strip? if this is a street car, progressive will make it so you can actually drive around cruising instead of just driving to the gas station.

I'm hoping to do street and strip. What will work best?

just saying that is the difference. Progressive on the street you can basically be driving a 2 barrel with progressive depending how you set them up. you can basically have the second primarys open say quarter pedal and then all 8 start to open half way. You run them together and you are opening four barrels right when you hit the pedals. I know its mostly about power here, but if you are just racing, you want them all opening now so you run them together.. On the street, you are wasting alot when you dont need that power, but when those secondaries do open you are gonna know it.

I could probably make a change out linkage set up. One for street use, ( progressive), and one for race( direct). If I run the progressive on the street, using basically only 2bbl, should I be worried about a lean out condition? I have never set up a tunnel ram, and have tons of questions.

I'd be concerned about mixture distribution running a progressive linkage. I had a tunnel rammed 327 with a direct linkage and 2 Carter AFBs in a '48 Plymouth coupe with a 4 speed and 3.70 gears - got about 12 mpg mixed town and freeway driving. Current owner runs low 13s with 3.89 gears.

I think mixture is why you cant just change bell cranks and go full race setup. If you can get 12 mpg like snake did that would be pretty good in my book. Hell, I barely get 12 with my carter 2 barrel straight six jeep.

I was thinking the same thing Snake. If I run progressive, the front carb being primary, I am concerned about a good fuel ratio/distribution to the rear cylinders. I know a million people have run TR set ups, I'm just not of of the experienced. If I do a direct linkage, both carbs primaries will feed the engine until my heavy foot hits the floor. I'm not awfully concerned with mpgs until DW.
