  • Trans blankets/ containment pans?

I looked around and checked the rule book but was unable to find what I am looking for so I figured I'd ask all you guys.
I will be running a slow little import I am currently putting together in the daily driver class, it has an automatic in it and since it will be slow only needs a roll bar. The car should be under 135 mph.
I need to know if a car like this needs a trans blanket (would be really hard to fit), also if it needs the pan that goes under the engine to catch fluids and such, that I have read about?
Or if that is for the faster classes?

    Thanks

I was also wondering about the locking trans dip stick. I don't see where anyone makes one for my car would it be alright to use a clamp around the tube and a wire tie through the dipstick top?

I got a ration for mentioning the unmentionables in regards to engine containment, if you are not running under 10 seconds the question is moot.

As to locking dip sticks, I can't get one for mine either, do when pressed I use a safety wire lock which seems make them happy. I'll have the safety wire and the tool with me so if you need it look for the enormous silver 71 Mustang convertible, I'm happy to help.

According to the 2012 NHRA rulebook- trans blanket or shield required 10.99 or quicker, flex plate shield required 9.99 or faster. I won't address the engine containment. To run quicker than 10.99, you will need aftermarket rear axles, locking trans dipstick, shifter with reverse lockout, driver restraint harness, driveshaft hoop, SFI harmonic balancer, Snell 2005 min. helmet, liquid overflow catch can on radiator, master electrical cutoff above 135 MPH, SFI roll bar padding, protective clothing (jacket), roll bar, tail lights, and a window net if running a cage. This from section 21, page 3 of the NHRA rulebook.
Why think when you can be doing something fruitful?

              Thanks orange.
I understood everything there but for some reason I didn't realize the time cut offs for the trans stuff.
I don't know how I can get a trans blanket around the trans as the car is all wheel drive. I can get a sheild I believe that goes on like a flywheel sheild but I'm not sure that is what is required.
I have everything else on the list covered.

Sorry I miised the other half of your question, I've been focused on the containment deal for a while as irwindale is getting twitchy about them.

The blanket/shield is for the trans case not the flywheel/flexplate shield. I'll admit I have no idea what the quick FWD guys run for these particular parts. I suspect you'll have to puruse catalogs online or post to a Evo specific forums to get a decent answer. The gneric balnkets made by RCI and the like are for conventional RWD trans behind the engine setups as in most muscle cars.
