  • MSD 7730 Power Grid Strange Misfire

I just finished hooking up the 7730 piggy-backed on my Mallory Hifire 6 box and Unilite Distributor.

Before ordering I talked to 2 separate techs at MSD to make sure it would work. Both had the same story. It will work fine.....On the 4 pin connector, Orange to B+, Red to Ing from Mallor box, White to Green Trigger from Mallory box, Black to ground. From the 7730 to the Distributor, it was white to ground, red to red, and the brown wire on the Unilite to ground.

Car fires up fine cold, and I ran it through some timing checks. As the motor starts to get warmed up, I noticed a very intermittent misfire. Worse at lower rpms.

Here is a video of what it is doing..........any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thx fella......I posted this at MSD, and on YB.COM also. Hopefully between the 3 or 4 options we can get it worked out.

I guess he doesn't work there anymore......Vic at MSD thinks it is in my distributor phasing.

Phasing is my thought, try bringing the timing back a few degrees and if it goes away its phasing

If you have a spare cap drill some holes and watch the phasing with a timing light and in the dark. Todd is now independent consulting with Aftermarket companies. He is still an awesome resource and Chad may have his new contact info.

Well.......ordered a 85501 distributor with the 84211 rotor......should get me going. I also will be resetting the map, and backing the timing off to see if it goes back to normal......then I will be certain this was the right choice.... Thanks guys!!!

I may pick up one of those jake. I don't like using the progressive. It kills the noids. So i may try to tame it by managing timing with a power grid.

That approach isn't neccessarily a picnic either. I have a buddy running Pro 8.5 with 525 BBC and get ready, a 500 shot. The Power Grid is great stuff but so far he hasn't been able to get it down the track the way he could with the progressive.

Not apples to apples but something to be aware of when pulling timing in N2O applications.
