  • Drag Week Testing the Cars or Drivers?????????? Calling Hot Rod Out

    THis is Bull Crap

My 56 or ? or any Unlimited Car can make any mileage
but DRIVER can only drive for soooooooooooooo many Hours in a day

Is Hot Rod trying to Break the CARS or the Drivers?

In a rental car HR crew couldnt do the Route with One Driver!

400 miles a day is a little over the top on proving yur car is a street car.

Hot Rod get your act together before someome gets Hurt!!!!!!!!!!!!

HRDW weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee could drive 200 miles and go back to the same Track to prove CAR is is a Street Car, RR tracks, work zone etc.

Some one is going to get Hurt if they keep pushing the hours we can Drive.

I like the Mag but enough is enough. Yur shouldnt need a rider just to do the miles to complete Drag Week.

We all know what is going on and its Our Cars and HR Magazine,
dont need four tracks, u just need ONE with different Routes to get the miles.

If u were at HRDW 012 at the end yur heard how Tracks were put together for 012. Thank u Tulsa

    HR if u need help?
call Me u have my #

Coming to Win DW DD 013 not to make the field.

Bob, you seem fired up? The orginal zeigeist of Drag Week was the film Two Lane Blacktop. A couple guys get in their street racer and go cross country on their wits and their skills for no more reason than just to do it. The GTO 'race' is just frosting and is 'girl'.

We all have the choice of whether to go or not. I've choosen to go five times and not to go three times. If DF and HRM get the formula too out of wack it'll die. Power Tour is considered a big success as a marketing event I suppose but I'm no longer interested even though I participated for portions a few times in the early days and did the Detroit to San Bernardino Long Haul in 2001. Participants interests evolve as do the events. CC's Real Street Eliminator is great example at a much smaller scale. I almost made that one once.

A series of out and backs wouldn't be as fun, for me at least as the chance to hit new tracks, is part of the charm. Day one of 2012 was a bitch, made harder by our determination to stay with a competitor who was having some issues. We arrived at the Texas Motorplex hotel an hour before dawn, but I wouldn't change anything about that drive.

When they announce the 2013 schedule we'll make the same calculation again. It's their event and nobody has a gun to our head.

Note: that doesn't mean you shouldn't suggest, cajole, insist, whine or whatever. That's your right too. Just don't expect a point by point response.

Some might argue that DW is a piece of cake compared to what Brock Yates makes 'em endure on One Lap of America.

For example, in 2013 the One Lappers are required to go from Northern Indiana to Louisiana to Florida to Maryland and back to Northern Indiana. http://www.thesmokingtire.com/2012/2...oute-revealed/

And they're required to run the whole event "Larson style" on one set of tires.

I won't even mention what Corky Coker puts 'em through on the "Great Race" (Imaging running hundreds of miles a day in a vintage roadster on back roads, timed to nths of a second)

The "drive" part of DW is really what separates it from just a series of time trials. If it's too grueling, bring a co-driver for the "in-transit" sections.

I dont know about anyone else I love to drive mine down the road, that the most fun part. The track stuff is secondary for me. I really dont mind the longer drives, it keeps the race cars out as we have seen in the past. For me at least this is vacation time, I was glad to see we could do 1 run and done again, because the road trip is the most fun.

I agree totally, the track part is fun but its the driving that made the event in my opinion. I know this was my first year but I have never been so excited to drive X amount of miles before.

I built mine to drive .... and I think it runs decent for a street car, so the drive appeals to me, with some track time thrown in to keep it honest.

I can race my car anytime I want as I live 12 miles from the Tulsa track, I logged close to 50 passes after drag week. Getting the chance to drive it around the country AND race doesn't happen so often.

Both. It's not an "OR" thing.

I for one burned out on "Racing" long ago. 3 nights a week for 10/12 years was enough for me to learn there is way more to life than living and dieing racing. If you want to just race the local track will welcome your support.

Plus if we dumb it down from where it is, the Jacket will mean nothing.
If you make it where anyone can do it, anyone will.
