  • Project Build_Finally got the Skylark Home.

Between dropping the Pontiac OHC-6 on my leg and my back going out, has been 3 months since I did any work on anything.

Yesterday managed to get my 71 Skylark home and get 3 hours in on it. Today going to drop the gas tank and do all that ugly work. Just my luck, over half tank of 6 year old gas to get out of there.

Still on light duty, so will see how it goes.

Both having different insights :-) One saying get that damn thing out of my driveway, the other saying don't you dare bring that thing home. Fortunately, my wife has very fond memories of Buicks. I just have to get it to a point she is positive there are no spiders included.

It would look good in my driveway. Also, we happen to love spiders, they eat mosquitoes so they are our best friends.

My first car ride was in a '68 Skylark.

          Nice project! Keep us posted!

Will do. Car sat for 6 years, no air leak in tires. Get it in my driveway and tire bead seperates from rim. Won't hold air enough to seal it. Bummer is, locks on rims and no adaptor key for them.

Ya know, for a reasonable sum, I could sell you the rallys and caps that were on my Skylark

I would rather do some trading. You happen to need tires and rims for your rescue rig?

that has potential, lots of potential - I could even throw in some 20s with adapters for those days when you want to travel to the Central District in Seattle

Don't do Donk. Will take pics tomorrow and see what you think. Got a lot done today, but mostly with my steam cleaner. Ugliest engine compartment I ever saw, couldn't stand to look at it, so figured I would start there and see if I can fire it up tomorrow. Who paints an engine with latex house paint?

Crappy socket in an impact, or apiece of hose between the socket and lock... Needs hefty pressure against it..
Saw a guy hammer a socket, making a little indentions and then an impact..
If the rims aren't savers, tack bad socket to the locks then use cut off wheel to get the sockets off
Of course that ruins the sockets...

19mm socket hammered onto them usually works well, when done, put it in a vice and punch the nuts out. Rinse, repeat, ymmv

Good lookin' 'Lark. In the pics it looks like a pillar coupe (not hardtop) - am I seeing that right? Pretty unusual if it is.

Yea, its the pillar. Seeing some strange things as I work through it. The grill is brand new, never been painted off a 72. Going to have to find an example of what was painted. I don't recognize the valve train either. Looks brushed aluminum with no adjustments. I was going to check everything with a torque wrench before I put the covers back on.
