More!  So why is the idle so important?

I'll speculate that it's important to have a good idle tune so that there's no loading up of the plugs before a launch, which could cause some broken parts.

Sorry for the delay....

Since the initial engagement of the clutch is dependant on weights/rpm/ and a few other factors, the idle speed of the car has an effect on how quickly the clutch starts to grab and how quickly the car hits the tire.

People scoff at injected nitro and injected alcohol cars. They are probably the hardest race cars there are to tune. With a supercharged engine you can change the blower drive ratio to compensate for weather or track conditions. With an A/F car or and injected alcohol car you have to work with he car, clutch, and a whole world of things most people never think about

Since there are several more parts to the series. I hope we drag some more people into the scene!

Cam specs are coming in the next installment, so that may get some peeps interested.

Cams are the heart of the whole thing.  We are really learning.
And if anyone asks, 55mm needle bearing billit cams are really costly.
