    Aw CRAP!

That sucks big time...... Oil & trans? Sounds like compound problems. What the heck would make it start leaking both at once AND cause drivability problems to boot? I could see a backfire ruining the Trans modulator valve, and causing a trans fluid leak, but how to account for the oil? Perhaps something caused a blown rear main seal at the same time? That looks like a rear main seal leak from here.....

Converter catastrophic failure? Takes out rear main while leaking itself?

Trans has operated and feels fine...drove it around the parking lot to be sure. I just had this thing on the rack, I didn't notice any trans fluid and while it's had a small (one-two drops overnight) rear main leak, how the hell did it grow to this size parked?? Checked the plugs and wires, they're just fine, coil connection is just fine, LB computer connection is fine, still runs like shit (but with a perfect idle).

Check your power steering pump. Maybe it's leaking? Or intermittently siezing up to cause all your noise running issues?

Two piece crankshaft wobbling and taking out the rear main seal, transmission input seal and running bad? ???

(I really hope not, I really can't even fathom how that would happen, take this as tongue in cheek)

            Re: Remy's '81 Mirada CMX

milkshake look could just be from rain water mixing with oil after it hit the ground.

Trans leak could be as mentioned powersteering from pump, lines, box, or trans from cooler lines, or connection at rad.

Oil in the pan look / smell fine?

Damit man - the timing of this is galactically horrible - needs fresh eyes and an open mind - who there can take a look?

Just got off the phone with J., the guy who did the exhaust. Just from what I explained to him, he's got the feeling that at worst case scenario, that I may have rolled a bearing or something has happened that is allowing the crank to move. Tomorrow before I take it up to storage I'm gonna check crank play and see how much movement I get. I just got his quotes for a fresh 360 and 904 rebuild too, just in case.

Timing sucks on this. It really does.

OK, well some good news. Located a rebuilt 360, will get checked out. The car, on the trip up to storage, worked perfectly fine again. Whole 14 mile trip. I don't know what the hell, but the possessed engine has got to go.

I reread some of this thread, and one thing baffles me.....

You still have that LeanBurn crap on and let it try to function?

Might be trying to leanburn when you need to be rich burning, or at least stoich burning?

Yea - before swapping engines I'd be tempted to do a "leanburnectomy" and put an aftermarket carb on.

The exhaust swap...I'd give you the medical idea, but there's some things even I won't put on this website.

The only reason the LB was still on the car was b/c it functioned, rather well in fact. The plan all along has been to ditch it with a 360 swap. Right now consensus is still that the crank walked into the torque converter, so I've got all the excuse I need to ditch that shit and go with (for now) the worked Carter AFB off of the Diplomat, a stout intake, and a very worked 727 (or the 904 if I can't locate one). By next week I should know the condition of the new engine.

Got some information about my new engine. It's definetly a 360, was pulled out of a truck in favor of a Slant Six for fuel economy, so I'm benefitting from somebody's guilt about the environment. Has no LB, is sporting an Edelbrock intake and has a "healthy cam"...I'm getting secondhand info, as I learn more I'll add. It's a stout runner, was only pulled so his truck could get better MPG. Sold to me, with trans, for $375. Stepdad is fronting the money up and I'll pay him back when I get settled and start getting the 9/11 GI bill payments again. Still looking at having the suspension done up there too by J. (exhaust guy). Not sure what the new trans is, but if it's a 727 I'll be dancing.
